Rota Dental would like to officially welcome Marina Funtik D.M.D, M.D.S to our expanding dental office. D.r Funtik will be joining our practice at the end of March. She’s a great dentist who comes highly recommended and a welcome addition to our practice. Below is a little biography of our new doctor. Read it to learn more about the newest member of the Rota Dental family.
Dr. Marina Funtik was born in a small Slovak farming village in former Yugoslavia. Influenced at an early age by her aunt, a dentist she shadowed and admired, she then attended a specialized, Medical High School preparatory for dental school.
At the age of 19 she moved to Colorado Springs and graduated from Pikes Peak Community College in dental assisting. Here, she earned numerous awards such as the Rising Star Award, Outstanding Dental Assisting Student Award and International and Dean’s scholarships.
Dr. Funtik then attended St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY on a full scholarship earning a Bachelor of Science degree with Departmental Honors in Biochemistry for dental research, while also graduating summa cum laude. In addition, she was invited to join Phi Beta Kappa, a highly prestigious honor received by only about 1% of college seniors nationwide.
In 2009, she attained a DMD degree from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine (UConn), Farmington, CT. She became passionate about prosthetic dentistry and subsequently was honored with the Hanau Excellence in Prosthodontics Award for her clinical skills. As a dental student, Dr. Funtik also did a mission trip to Johannesburg, South Africa providing dental sealants to underserved children.
In 2012, Dr. Funtik graduated from the three-year Advanced Prosthodontics Program at UConn specializing in Prosthodontics, one of nine ADA-recognized dental specialties. Here, she focused her interests on cosmetic dentistry the surgical placement and restoration of dental implants, partials and dentures, and full mouth rehabilitation.; and completed a Masters of Dental Science. While at UCONN, she also did a dental outreach program in Sitka, Alaska, providing dentures to native tribes.
Before moving back to Colorado, Dr. Funtik has been practicing prosthodontics and general dentistry in Connecticut.
As an active member of American Dental Association, Academy of Osseointegration and American College of Prosthodontists, she is committed to advancing her skills and providing the highest level of care to her patients.
In her free time she enjoys skiing, biking and gardening. She loves nature and animals.
Dr. Joe Rota is a leading general and cosmetic dentist and the winner of eight international medals from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He first opened Rota Advanced Dental Care in Colorado Springs in 1978 and has been providing excellent dental care ever since. Dr. Rota is best known for being a technological pioneer in the field and for being one of the first dentists to use therapy dogs in his office. In his spare time, Dr. Rota enjoys landscape photography, silk flower arranging, and riding his Harley.
